Helping Children Deal With Their Fears About Terrorism
Thursday
This is a Purdue University Extension for helping parents and teachers help children to deal with news about terrorism: Terrorism and Children.
Food for Thought:
Sixty children who were traumatized by Hurricane Andrew got a massage twice a week for a month. Thirty minutes of massage, twice a week. The control group merely watched a relaxing video for the same amount of time. The kids who got the massages had significantly less cortisol in their blood stream. Cortisol is a stress hormone. And on measures of depression, the kids who got a massage were less depressed than the kids who didn't get a massage.
